Logo + Brand FAQ's

Why hire Tickyboom for a logo?

For us, a logo is life-giving work. We love to give your brand or business a face, a look, an identity. We have been doing this type of work a long time, and are very much nerds when it comes to creating some awesome marks.

What is the process from start to finish?

01  Let's Connect
You need a logo for your emerging brand. Let's connect. You can email us, use our contact form, or set up a call with us. We then have a quick 15-minute discovery phone call or Skype. We will also get some basic information from you to see if we are a good fit. Giddy.

02 Questionnaire
After our intro, we will send you a questionnaire. This questionnaire is magic and helps us form a scope so we can get you an accurate solution and quote. This questionnaire also helps you iron out any areas of your vision or expectations you may have fuzziness in. The more thorough you are, the more clarity we will have. Win-win!

03 Quote Submission
We gather your information and then meditate on what you submitted to us. We may even go on a hike and hold our arms out on top of a mountain. If we have no further questions we will send you a quote. Our quotes are usually tweaked a bit to tailor your specific needs. Hence the questionnaire.

04 You Review Quote
You will either select your options from the quote and accept it, or ask us for more info. Once you accept the quote we will send you an agreement to approve. One important agreement point: We do not start work until the agreement is signed and a deposit paid. No exceptions. #143though

05 You Accepted!
Congrats! You accepted a quote, signed an agreement and paid us a deposit! Let’s rock n’ roll! We will set up a kickoff call/meeting, add you to our Project management tool, and then get started.

06 We Do Our Thang
A logo is a super intensive project. Even logos that look simple had an incredible amount of work done. We get started with sketching and ideation. We may show you very simple sketches to see if we are on the right track.

07 Review Concepts
After we do our thang it is time to set up a meeting to review our initial design concepts. This meeting can be super helpful if it is in person, and we really get a lot done. Most times we nail the logo on the first round, and sometimes we need more direction. Either way, this is an exciting stage.

08 Refine It and Finalize!
After the initial concept meeting, we refine your logo and attempt to finalize the logo you will use. Sometimes this takes a couple rounds, but usually after the first round we really rock-n-sock em! Expect rapid emails of design revisions and expect to get really excited as we are almost done.

09 Adapt and Conquer
After a logo direction is finalized we get into a stage that really benefits you. We adapt your logo to situations that are super common for you. Social Media, Print, Website, and other scenarios we deem essential. We also develop different orientations and color schemes. You will be in amazing shape.

10 Have A Tasty Beverage!
Your logo is done. Boom! We export a style guide that will give you all the amazing info on your logo, it's uses and any fonts used with it. This will be your silver bullet for using your logo with amazing magic. We also export print and digital ready assets in different sizes. It is all of the amazing.

What are the final deliverables?

Styleguide
We create a style guide for you to reference on how to use your logo, the color palette to use for your brand, the typeface used and where to purchase it (if a bespoke development was not used) along with some do’s and dont’s for using your logo. This is a printable document that will be very valuable to you as you start to populate your emerging visual brand to the public.

Logo Assets
When we develop a logo for you, we also develop different orientations and use cases. This will be invaluable to you in making sure your logo is kicking butt no matter where it is. A few examples of what you will get is a logo in vertical, horizontal, full color, one color, one color on black, two color on black, icon alone, social media sizes(generic). We also export the logos in vector, print, HD, and web/digital ready formats. Basically, we try our hardest to get you a kit that will help you conquer the digital and print world.

Online Delivery
We will deliver your full logo kit to you online, and in a password protected area that only you have access to, broken out into the different asset types for ease of organization.

What kind of logo designs can you do?

Mark + Name
Usually, this is a logo that contains a logo mark or icon accompanied by the name of the company inexpertly set type. This is one of the most common logotypes. The advantage of this is that you can easily pull out the icon and use it in places like social media to help your audience recognize your brand. The only disadvantage is that sometimes pulling out just the type is not as strong as pulling out the icon, and sometimes clients are hesitant to use just an icon. We think that with anything in life, creating patterns of consistency while building your brand is paramount to success.

Logotype or Wordmark:
This type of logo is just type and no logo mark independent of the type. This is superb for shorter named companies. This type of logo usually has custom made type with character. A strategy for social media avatar use is to pull out the first letter of the name, or a combo of letters and use that as your ‘mark’ or ‘icon’. The advantage of this type of logo is that you can really show off your character with typography. A disadvantage is that you could lose some brand recognizability if your pull out icon is weak.

Mascot Style:
Think MailChimp. This is a logo that is super heavy on the use of a mascot. Sometimes a whole design system will be built around a mascot creation. This can be super amazing for building quick brand recognition if the mascot style resonates with your audience, and is memorable. A mascot style can be very involved, and sometimes may cost more as much more effort and time is needed to really nail this style. This is more of a high risk and high rewards, but you only live once.

Custom Hybrid:
While we listed out the most common types of logo marks, there is always the option to come up with something truly unique and impacting. Our bottom line is we want to effectively communicate your business vision or brand mission. Our big benefit is that we love this work and we love equipping you to conquer your dreams and goals.

How long does a logo take?

A logo is such an important phase in your business, and we like to make sure we are doing things right. Usually the first round takes 2 - 3 weeks for initial development. After that, things go rather quickly as we usually get things honed in right away.

Will I be updated on the Logo Design process?

Of course, we like to make sure you have an updated schedule, and we also will use a project management tool for us to collaborate together.

How many Logo Design revisions will you make?

We usually like to limit things to 4 rounds. Round 1 is usually the bulk of the work, and we get a mark we feel is right for you. Round 2 - 3 is looking at variations and finalizing the logo. Round 4 is finalizing 🙂

What if I come up with my own ideas for a Logo Design?

We welcome your input on your Logo Design at all times, and would create design concepts based on your ideas. We do however encourage you to have an open mind, and understand that we may come up wit ha logo identity that you may not have in mind at first. We will always have the reasoning available behind our choices, and they are usually lined up with your vision and helping you make an impact.

What about the copyright of my Logo Design?

Once you have agreed to hire us for a Logo Design, and have made full payment, you are the legal outright copyright owner of the final Logo Design. You are able to trademark the Logo Design. You may also conquer your market.

Web Design FAQ's

Why hire Tickyboom for a web design?

We have a ton of experience with web design. We really push ourselves to stay on top of trends while also creating smart designs that will last you a long time. We are responsive nerds, and love to serve your design up beautifully on all devices.

This is also not our first rodeo in doing web design, and we know how to stay on track in getting one of your biggest branding tools live and in front of peoples faces.

What web design services do you offer?

One-Page Website
A one-pager is super awesome if you don’t have much to say. A one-page site is literally one page and usually contains anchor links. The one exception is that if there is a blog, it is technically considered a multipage site, but only in the blog department. A one-pager is awesome if you need to establish your brand, but aren’t ready to do a full-blown site. We think of this as a starter step. This type of site would still have navigation and utilize jump points for a user of the site to jump to the different sections. A disadvantage of one-page sites is they are not that great for SEO. A huge advantage is if done super clean and succinctly, they can be a huge great start for your online presence.

Multi-page/full-blown website:
A multipage or full-blown website is the most common. These kinds of websites will usually have pages like About Us, Contact Us, Portfolio, Blog, Services. This type of website is perfect for when you have a lot of your company that you want to communicate. It helps you establish your brand and personality. It also is an SEO monster and can really help you get exposure by having many entry points into your website, and parts of your company. With multi-page websites, you can have E-commerce, a blog, or any type of lead generation you would like.

E-commerce website:
The difference with an E-commerce website compared to the other ones mentioned is in the focus. An E-Commerce website is optimized for selling goods. Usually, there will be an about page, blog and then the rest of the site will be solely used for E-commerce. One thing to note, if you are going to be using E-commerce or collecting people’s data, you will need to make sure your web hosting is PCI Compliant. Web security is tightening up greatly. You will also need to get SSL security attached to your web hosting.

Photography, Art, Blog, Portfolio
We are super skilled at beautifully displaying your words, photographs, or ideas in a blog or portfolio. We have the tools and know-how to take your complex bits of information and wield them to our will, beautifully and masterfully on all devices. Let's work together to communicate your art.

Illustration*: We have a pretty fun style of illustration. We can develop custom illustrated scenes for your pages, icons, and other elements to help elevate your brand and make your website visitors go WOW!

Lead Generation*: We design lead generation integration on your website. We can integrate with most popular email list companies like Mailchimp, Convertkit etc. We also design custom lead generation tools to help you capture leads, and grow a massive audience.

Dynamic website elements: We have noticed that having different navigation, footer, and such designs can really maximize the website's impact, while also helping you serve up dynamic content to your user.

What is the process from start to finish?

01 We Connect
You need a website and want to meet us and explain your needs. You either email us, contact us on our form, or set up a call with us. We then have a quick 15-minute phone call or Skype and get to know each other. We will also get some basic information from you to see if we are a good fit.

We usually will submit one simple design tier, and one with custom illustrations, icons or photo manipulation. We will also have add-ons you can select.

04 You Review Quote
You will either select your options from the quote and accept it, or ask us for more info. Once you accept the quote we will send you an agreement to approve. A couple important agreement points: We do not start work until the agreement is signed and a deposit paid. No exceptions. Also, the top portion of our agreement is where all the project-specific is located, and the rest is all California required info. They require so much of the things.

05 You Accepted!
Congrats! You accepted a quote, signed an agreement and paid us a deposit! Let’s rock n’ roll! We will set up a kickoff, add you to our Project management tool, get started. In this kick-off call you will learn that we design to content, what our QA review process is like, and our process for project management.

06 Initial Content
We will open up content tickets, and any other preliminary tickets we need completing for us to start the design. We will concentrate on getting a sitemap done to finalize navigation (which also helps us know the pages that will be on the website). We will also concentrate on getting content and direction for the homepage done and submitted to us.

07 Initial Designs
This is the really fun part. We will submit a date for Homepage review. This is super important. This stage will have navigation, homepage content, and overall design directions completed. We usually submit two directions either via Invision or live in the browser. When we do live in the browser we also like to have Mobile in very good shape so you can see how our vision for your vision is looking on all kinds of devices, just like your audience.

08 Design Chosen!
Once a design direction is chosen, we begin the rollout phase. We will add dates for content tickets that are still outstanding for you, which will help you understand a timeline. Based off that we will add tickets for design reviews with date estimates to help you get a fuller view of how long this project will take. As you submit content we design pages. We will update tickets when they are ready to review. You review and approve or submit feedback. We close out tickets. Now we are rocking.

09 QA, QA, QA
Once all pages are done, we will do one more round of QA so that you can make sure all pages are correctly rendering, and you can make sure your content is correct. Also, you will need to do some testing on devices on your end as well in case there is a bug we missed. Then we go to the final stage.

10 Have A Tasty Beverage!
We develop all sites on our staging servers and transfer the site once everything is approved and final payment made. We then will log in to your server via credentials you provided and transfer the website from our server to yours. Automagically your site is live. If you got SEO or a maintenance package we will do that work on your server at that time. Then you can dance around your home or have a tasty beverage.

Do you do project management?

Yes, we use Asana to manage QA tickets, content, and each page of the site. That way you will see the progress of the website, and are able to easily understand your tasks.

How long does a website take?

The fastest website we have done was 1 month. It was a smaller site, and the client was super attentive to tickets.

We notice usually websites take between 2 - 3 months to complete. This is a super realistic estimation from over 5 years of experience. If you want to have a fast track website, it takes a lot of commitment on your end, as well as ours. We would love to chat about how we can make it faster for you.

What are the final deliverables?

A Responsive website on your server, helping your brand conquer the internets. If you also hired us for illustration, you will own the rights to those illustrations, and you can do what you like with them, as long as it fits within the design system 🙂
